Zion Baptist Church is a Bible preaching, Bible teaching church serving the Port Tobacco, LaPlata, Ripley, Hilltop, Indian Head, Pisgah and Welcome areas of Southern Maryland.
The Zion Baptist Church was organized in 1884 by Reverend Nelson as an outgrowth from the Mount Hope Baptist Church in Ironsides, Maryland. Mount Hope has long been referred to as Zion's Mother Church.
The first church building, constructed in 1902, was known as "Little Zion Baptist Church". A new building was constructed in 1956 that has had two additional facilities added since the completion of the current sanctuary. Since 1884, numerous pastors have served the growing congregation. Our current pastor, Reverend Gloria A. Savoy, has been Zion's pastor since January 1, 2022.
